Upcycling Inspiration

Upcycled teak vintage telephone seat

I’ve been browsing the web this morning, and I came across this stunning upcycled telehone seat… I have seen a number of these at the auctions, but never thought of buying it, as first of all, who is using stationary phones these days, and second, it’s not part of our lifestyles. we usually go for cordless phones, which we use wherever we’re in the house, instead of sitting by the phone in the hallway… But this beautifully restored table can be used in number of ways, as a little hall table to lighten your entryway, and work as a bench when you’re putting your shoes on. Or as a little seat by the bay window, little landing feature seat, and so on… I think the best way to furnish your home, is to go for the beautiful things that really grasp your attention, and then find a use for them. That way you will surround yourself with the things that make you happy! I will definitely be on a look out for a telephone seat right now and upcycle it into a hallway bench for my little space under the stairs!

Industrial Rustic Home Decor

Rustic home decor is often associated with industrial decor – steel frames, bare wood, copper and wrought iron accessories. Both styles look very well together, and will fit perfectly in both period property or a contemporary home. I think designing contemporary home full of white walls and floors, together with few industrial additions, like rustic coffee table or steel bookcase can have a stunning effect. Video: Large Retro Chest of Drawers

I’ve been playing with videos almost all day today, testing different techniques and services provided. It is tricky to find a decent video making programme, that won’t be watermarking the clips, unless you pay for the service. Me, being me, always look for the ways to create things for free, and I don’t mind spending more time working on a video to get the great effect, instead of paying someone to do it. Although I have to say, some of the paid video editing sites had rather impressive templates… Maybe in the future. Here, I have created just a quick video promoting our new Mid Century Chest of Drawers. I have been inspired by a similar short video promoting single item on one of the websites I’ve seen today. I hope you like it!

Earlier today, I have finished other video, which took me relatively longer time to complete, but it was more complex. I had to research the nautical decor ideas and group them together into 5 different style ideas. You can see this video by clicking the link below:

Moroccan Style

Posted on Updated on

I do love the exotic Moroccan style, with it’s magical hidden nooks, gorgeous detailings, rich fabrics and lanterns! I’m a big fan of lanterns and brass details, so this style is really one of my favourites. I love seeing how Moroccan style is nicely incorporated in the rustic interior.

Rustic Beginnings…

Rustic Kitchen Chair

When I first started Cherrie Hub, it was more of an upcycling / restoration event, I hated the thought of throwing old furniture away, and always had a vision on how to update an old cabinet or a coffee table. I loved painting furniture, upholstering chairs and doing little decoupage – that’s how I discovered Mod Podge – absolutely genius product!

Then one day, I’ve come across most gorgous vintage oak kitchen dresser, which had fantastic carved details, arched top and some lovely mouldings. Yet it was painted with old brown glossy paint, the one you see so often on the furniture made in 1970s. So naturally first thing for me was to remove the paint and sand down the dresser. As soon as I stripped the paint, underneath was hiding most magnificent oak, with beautiful rustic appeal. I had no heart to paint it, so I left it bare, and simply applied one layer of beeswax polish. It sold it almost straight away, and that’s how I felt in love with natural wood rustic furniture. And this affair continuous to this day…

Extending Oak Kitchen Island – a Smart Idea for a Small Kitchen!

Recently I have moved to the new house, it’s a lovely little cottage in Cornwall. The accent here is on ‘little’ of course. It was build last century to fit the needs of Cornish fishermen, so obviously it is not focused on being spacious and luxurious, just cosy and practical. It is a lovely place, and full of character. The only downside is the size of the kitchen work tops. They are absolutely tiny! Once I have placed the microwave, the kettle and utensils on top, there’s not enough room for anything else. So when I cook and have all the ingredients and spices handy on a display, I struggle to find a room to chop the veg or put a spoon or a pot cover on the side. It’s a juggle sometimes!

So getting this extending kitchen island was a really smart idea. It doesn’t take much room at all (it is really surprising how well it can fit in a small kitchen!), and once you open the leaf on the back you have the most amazing and spacious work top. The best thing is, that it’s on the castors, so you can roll it from place to place around the kitchen. From being extra work top while you cook the dinner, it will be the breakfast table in the morning and also handy spot to put your dishes after washing! I can’t imagine my kitchen without it now – I got extra space to roll the pastry, hang the tea towel, place the chopped onions on the side or move the hot pan out of the way – it’s an absolute treat!
