Choosing Right Necklace for a Neckline
Isn’t it the constant dilemma for us ladies? Choosing the right necklace for the top we’re wearing. Unless you wear your delicate golden chain everyday, and with every outfit, you are faced with this immortal decision – which necklace to choose? I personally love to change the jewellery, from short fitted necklaces to some stunning long beads. And this chart is really fitting, sometimes you have quite decorative neckline, like a Cowl Neck, which you don’t want to spoil with too much jewellery, so you could just wear longer earrings to accentuate it. Or pick longer beads to a turtleneck sweater. I love this idea, and it gives us excuse to stock up on even more jewellery – to fit all the neckline types we have!
How To Pick Decor That Will Stand a Test of Time?
You love to follow current decorating trends at home, but you’re afraid your house will look too “been there, done that” after a few years. Is there a way to add trendy accessories to the current decor that will stand the test of time?
Buying accessories that are interesting to you is the key to timelessness. You have to go with whatever suits your own personal style. Part of the fun in shopping for home decor accents is picking up special pieces on your travels, at a flea market or at antique shops. Finding things in unexpected places will help you avoid the mass trends!
But, a word of caution: Many people feel as though they have to display all of their home furnishing accessories at once, but don’t! Instead, group your accessories (three to five pieces) into a theme or particular style and store the rest. For example, milk-glass pieces grouped together look elegant and cohesive, as does a series of silver picture frames or wooden artifacts. When you get tired of what you have on display, pull some fresh pieces out of storage and swap them out!
Half Term DIY: Cookie Cutter Bird Feeder
So here it is, a Half Term week. It is really great that the weather is fantastic for February, especially comparing with last year – do you still remember the rain? Now, half-term means having kids at home, and doing all to make them entertained. Why not get creative and try some DIY? We’ve prepared 20 DIY projects to try this half term with your kids, which we’ll be posting here and on our blog – http://www.cherriehub.co.uk/blogs/news.
So here is the first project: Cookie Cutter Bird Feed. Check below for the instructions:
what you’ll need:
-3/4 cup birdseed (we got the seed for small birds)
-1/4 cup water
-1 small envelope of gelatine
-twine or string
-cookie cutters or molds
-wax paper
what you’ll do:
-mix together the envelope of gelatine with 1/4 cup of water and bring to a simmer while stirring. continue stirring until the gelatine is dissolved.
-remove from heat and let cool for a minute.
-stir in the 3/4 cup birdseed. adding a little more if there is liquid still in the bottom of the pan.
-lay your cookie cutters out on wax paper and fill half way with the birdseed mixture.
-cut your twine, knot the end and push the knot down into your birdseed.
-continue filling with birdseed, covering the end of your twine and knot.
-push the birdseed evenly into the cookie cutter until it’s full.
-allow them to dry overnight. turning them over every now and then.
-remove from the cookie cutters and hang them in your trees.
Now wait by the window for your first guests!
DIY Monkey Mask – Half Term Project
Isn’t that a fun project to make? Fantastic for this upcoming half-term with your kids. All you need is a bit of cardboard saved from the recycling bag, scissors, pencil, paper glue and paint (optional). Draw the shape of the monkey head on the biggest piece of cardboard, with the fringe on top, two circles for eyes and one big circle for the mouth. Cut it all carefully. To cut the curcles, you could use a small kitchen knife.Be sure to cut it on the craft mat, or kitchen wooden board.
Then, on smaller pieces of cardboard, draw the half moon shapes as eye covers, ears, as well as upper and lower lips. Also triangular shape for a nose. Cut out all the shapes, mould into required design, and secure onto the mask using the paper glue. Let it dry, and when all is secure, optionally paint the top of the fringe with the chosen paint. Hang it on the wall, and let your kids show it to your guests. Have fun!

I love copper, it is great decorative material, and works great in a rustic and contemporary home. If you love farmhouse look, you can hang few rustic pans over your stove for an authentic country feel. But if modern clean spaces are more of your thing, you can still work copper for your benefit. Add copper painted flower pots on your window, or spray paint simple wooden chair to make it really stand out. Or add modern copper lamp cover for an industrial touch.

Home filled with Manic Rush
It’s been one of those days, that have passed I don’t know when, and didn’t even manage to do the third of what I planned. It was like walking through the mud. Nevermind, tomorrow’s another day. I suppose a major chunk of today was eaten by packaging rather large vintage lounge chair and the rattan shelving – in three different boxes. One for the shelving, one for the chair, and one for the cushions that go with the chair. After that I didn’t even need my planned work-out anymore, I felt like it was more excercise than I usually do. Luckily all these items are now packed, ready to collect tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be also a great day for finally painting vintage laundry basket that I found last weekend. It has got beautifully upholstered lid, but the sides will do with the lick of paint. I am looking forward to finally seeing the effect, I think it will be stunning.
But, one of the things I managed to finish today, was a bit of art work for the website, updating banners to go on our ebay listings and email signatures. That needed changing, as I updated the branding. For a long time I’ve been using ‘Home filled with rustic charm’, but as most of our items are in nautical theme, and we are based in Cornwall, I wanted the branding to reflect it too. Hence the change to ‘Rustic home with coastal charm’ – I think it sounds better, and sums up what we offer in our online shop.

My pursuit of all things rustic is complete for a while, when I come across anything made of wrought iron, wire or wicker – ideally all three combined. For years I have been collecting rustic storage units made from wire, with leaf details.
